i don't visit www.relevantmagazine.com often but when i do i always enjoy the random news slices...here are some highlights.
Thomas Kinkade, the king of campy Christian paintings, has signed a deal with real estate developers to build homes modeled after those featured in his paintings. The homes are estimated to cost between $4 million and $6 million. We've heard that each house has a special room for Precious Moments knickknacks and Left Behind collectibles...
The Washington Times published an interesting story this weekend about a revival that is taking place in Africa. The story looks at a monthly 300,000-member service (which lasts all night) that is Nigeria’s version of the megachurch. The movement is sweeping communities, and, according to the article, “many theologians say the ‘African century’ of Christianity is under way”…
With church attendance plummeting, congregations in England are using karaoke to attract new visitors. Thanks to the new Hymnal Plus/HT-300 (we’re not making this up), amateur singers will have recorded accompaniment, easy-to-read words and a catalog of church classics. Some American churches tapped into this technology years ago with a device called an “overhead projector”…
A church for homosexuals has launched a $55,000 ad campaign that is causing a stir among traditional Christian churches in an Indiana community. Thousands of door hangers, T-shirts and stickers were distributed throughout Indianapolis, along with a newspaper ad that shows a group of Klansmen around a burning cross, comparing them to anti-gay Christians. Needless to say, a debate is raging in Indy…

From Iconoculture's Advisory Team (www.iconoculture.com)

It's springtime and our thoughts have turned to passion. Not the hearts-and-flowers, sap-rising-after-a-long-winter kind. We're talking about prominent African-Americans speaking publicly and passionately on tough subjects.
There's Cosby: After criticizing poor African-Americans notoriously in 2004, this month the former TV Dad indicted African-American men as he encouraged women graduates of Spelman College to take charge. Both times Cosby exposed the mainstream to some class, gender and generational tensions African-Americans usually keep behind slammed doors. And whether or not we agree, Cosby's passion for African-American communities is clear.
And there's Nagin: New Orleans' mayor just won re-election despite having shown his passion...twice. First, he raged at slow Katrina relief efforts then enthused about New Orleans' eventual return to a "chocolate" majority. Nagin wasn't saying anything many others weren't saying too - he just did it publicly. Yet, instead of rejecting Nagin's style, voters lined up for more.
Public passion is dangerous for African-Americans. It can conjure social fears about Angry Blacks, trigger accusations of emotionality or paranoia, even inspire resentment for airing "dirty laundry." But this kind of honesty advances our conversations about prickly topics like race, class or gender. In fact, these passionate figures might just be stimulating Americans' hunger for truthful, authentic interactions when they expose our more intimate territory. It's getting hot-hot-hot!

33 minutes later...
Well I’m back to work. It’s 11:43am and I swear this day is going super slow. Errr. I hate having really slow days with no motivation. So I’m already eating my Lean Cuisine lunch and doing a little blogging. Hopefully, this afternoon will speed right by.
Here’s a little story from my family outing that I thought was funny. The first night we are traveling, my grandma notices the tattoo on my foot. In the past I have made attempts to sort of “hide” the tattoo but in the last few years I’ve realized that I am an adult after all and I can have a tattoo if I want. Oh my gosh! You would have thought I had killed her first born and eaten him for dinner. (Just a note: I got my tattoos when I was 25 and spent a great deal of time thinking about getting them. I’m happy with them. Might I regret them when I’m 60? Possibly. Am I 60 yet? No.) Anyway, my grandma starts to go through a list – What else have you done? Does your mother know? Does Eddie have a tattoo? When did you do it? Did you even think about what you were doing? All the while, all I can say is “grandma, this is the wildest thing I have ever done” and I’m looking at our traveling companion, my father who has spent time in prison, been arrested multiple times, been a horrible father and continues to mooch off his parents. And yet, she is harassing me about the flowers on my feet. It was very interesting. I suppose I completely ruined the view she had of me – after all I was always the “good” one.
I have a spiritual matter I want to ramble about. I realize that I don’t talk about God much here so please forgive me if it bores you. And please if it interests you – give me some feedback because I’m looking for something here. I’ve been going to these small groups; you know the ones with kids and hardwood floors. We’ve been doing Lexio Divino in Psalms and I’ve enjoyed it for the most part. But the last meeting really bothered me. We read through this passage –
Psalm 117
1 Praise the LORD, all you nations;
extol him, all you peoples.
2 For great is his love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.
Praise the LORD. [f]
And this is my problem. I don’t buy it anymore. In the past, I could read it and believe it. Now I just sort of “roll my eyes” and the cynicism just kicks in. And the people in my group were all over it. I can’t play this game and pretend it all makes sense and settles well with me. Because it doesn’t – I have some serious doubts especially using the Bible as a means to a spiritual experience.
Sorry this is so negative but I’m just trying to be really honest so I can get rid of all the dishonesty in myself about this stuff. So this is my question(s) – How do I learn to read and experience the Bible when I really don’t trust it? It’s almost as if it was sold to me as a new Christian as the ultimate “TRUTH” and my faith depended on it. But now I know there is so much more to it – good and bad. And I do believe that it can be a living thing to me and help me in the spiritual journey.
I wonder is it possible to have a relationship, a truly spiritual one with God minus the Bible as a guide? I have to think yes. But then again, I have no idea what I’m doing.
I’m not sure that any of that makes sense…sorry.
And just to end things on a happy note…E and I had a great time Sunday and Monday.
Sunday we were super lazy and rented a couple of movies. Fun with Dick and Jane was funny and pretty much what I expected it to be. And I enjoyed Shopgirl, a nice little story. There was lots of sex with Steve Martin which was sort of odd. I never thought of Steve Martin as a sexy guy.
Yesterday we went to the Paseo Arts Festival. It was a nice day to get out. The art was a little odd…some good and some bad.

where to begin...
well i made it home. no major traffic mishaps, i didn't kill my good for nothing father and my grandma saw the beach (and pointed out she would much rather go to the lake).
i'm not sure how much i want to go on about this trip. sometimes i think it's best to leave these things alone especially if they are after the fact. i had hoped to possibly resolve some issues, gain a new understanding or even just spend quality time with the family. but i don't think any of these things happened through the trip. if anything, it had a negative impact. generally i see my grandparents and paternal family in a very controlled environment (in their house on beaver mountain in eastern ok). in this case, i spent time with them in an environment very foreign to them and this is what i found out - my family are seriously white trash racists. yes, racists. i'm not exactly miss non-racists - i have my stereotypes - i tense up when i see a group of black teenagers - i know it's wrong and i should react differently and i tell myself this - but i'm pretty sure my family doesn't have this little light go off in their head. they just say these completely inappropriate things as if they are completely acceptable. i was mortified. i had no idea.
and my father. he sucks. i'm just going to leave it at that.
but some positives -
i saw my two brothers, which i enjoyed greatly. and i think they were glad i came so that made it worth it.
i stopped at carl's corner. i had no idea this place existed. yes, i know this makes me white trash but i can't help it - I LOVE WILLIE NELSON. and now i have my very own "bio-willie" bumper sticker.
i read the book that catie recommended, "the prize winner of defiance, ohio" and i really enjoyed it. i had some struggles with the mom staying with the abusive husband and not having her independence, etc. but it was interesting considering it was another time and mindset. but i was watching some political show yesterday and it came to mind again. the commentators were talking about hillary clinton running for president and what would need to happen with good ole' bill. would they need to set some groundrules? hey bill, you need to keep your hoo-ha under control for awhile. anyway, the question came up - would women frown upon hillary for staying with a man who has obviously wandered multiple times and shown little respect for their marriage. and one of the commentators said that she thought that women would support hillary for staying in the marriage, working through the difficult times, etc. i was shocked that any liberal woman in the u.s. would say that. i don't really have much else to say about it - just thought it was interesting in relation to the book set in the 1950's. have women really changed all that much?
my grandpa told me that he was proud that i went on the trip. when i asked why, he said that he likes us to spend time together - it makes him happy. my grandma told me she was tickeled that we all went. these are good things.
more to come i'm sure...hope everyone had a nice weekend. back to work tomorrow. stink stink stink.

Wednesday is the new Friday
Since I will be out for Top Ten Friday – I’m listing my songs today. I’m afraid I’m going to really miss my friend the blog…
Renegades of Funk – Rage Against the Machine
White Flag – Embodyment
Voices Carry – ‘Til Tuesday
Helter Skelter – U2
She Don’t Want Nobody Near – Counting Crows
You’re the One That I Want – Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta (I had no IDEA this was on Nola)
Bittersweet Symphony – The Verve
The Day the Colors Died – Bloomsday
Broadway – Goo Goo Dolls
The Glory of War – The Redwalls
Ghostbusters 3?
Last night I realized another item that was stolen in my purse. Abreva – the wonder cold sore medicine that costs $15 a tube. Yep, imagine this, it’s 10:30pm and you feel a tingling on your upper lip. Could it be cold sore, surely not but with further inspection you realize it is. Suck. That’s what you get for stressing about stupid things. You go to look for your Abreva and you realize that too was in your bag with Charlie the iPod….noooo those stupid thieving punks. (I wish cold sores upon them.) You know that if you don’t treat it quickly and before you sleep the cold sore will likely be the size of a ping pong ball in the morning. So what’s a girl to do...force the husband to go to Albertsons with you to buy the overpriced cold sore medicine that likely cost $.53 cents to produce. Errrrr….
I’m cutting myself off. I seriously have work to do.

insert generic title here...
So this isn’t very timely but I wanted to give you a report on some recent activities.
Thursday I returned to the church small group. And again the babies and hardwood floors are freaking me out. I like babies and I’m glad there are people to re-populate the earth. But one lady started talking to me about her kid – I didn’t ask – she just talked for about five minutes about her kid. How the baby looked like the dad, how the baby was fat, how the mother-in-law said the baby should be talking….ahhhhhh….I was looking for an escape but I couldn’t find one.
Friday evening I got my haircut. I took in a photo of an “old” haircut; I believe it was during my last growing out phase. Anyway, it is a wee bit shorter than I was expecting. I’m sort of in shock but luckily I’m a short hair girl so I should settle in quickly. It's funny to me that I am now recycling hair styles.
I also went to dinner with Amber. We went to a new place near Quail Springs called Casablanca’s. I’ll just say this – it was very odd. It was one of those restaurants with every type of food possible. Would you like vermicelli or ribs? Lettuce wraps or pizza? I generally find those places not very trustworthy when it comes to tastiness. Too much variety. A couple of other things to note. The restaurant is owned by the Jimmy’s Egg owners (I really wanted an omelet and home fries). The salads were huge. Literally my whole blog readership could have munched on this chicken caesar salad that came with three chicken breasts. The mood lights kept going up and down. We were sitting to close to our neighbors. It was just an odd place. I give it a D.
Saturday we went to the fetish photography exhibit. Yeah, I’m not really into goth girls. This is what I gathered from that experience but it was nice to see Dirk.
Oh and I got a bathing suit. I bought a 1 piece Speedo from Academy. It is a very serious, athletic bathing suit. And it provides a serious amount of rear end coverage. It sort of has that 1950’s bathing suit look with an athletic spin. Now I just have to go to the class…
Sunday we went to the Dachshund Dash. Oh my, that was fun. For those of you unfamiliar with the Dachshund Dash (which I think is a brilliant concept, likely not original to OKC though) it is a fundraising event for Free to Live, a local non-killing shelter. Basically the event is weenie dog races at Remington Park. There is nothing funnier than a running weenie dog. Ok, maybe a group of confused, highly excited weenie dogs racing might be funnier. E and I placed some bets and well it’s embarrassing how excited we got about our win. Rufus was able to pull out a second place win after a not-so-good start. There was even a replay of the finish.
And yesterday I picked up the book for my travels that Catie recommended. I’m excited. I love going to the library but I must admit I have a problem. I’m not a huge reader but I have lots of interests and when you let me loose in the library – I check out a lot of books. Yet, I never read them all. I forget about them, get fines, pay the fines, get disgusted with myself that I don’t finish the 6 books I checked out, and then don’t go back to the library for months. I think I need to set myself a check-out limit and limit myself to one topic at a time.
I also have purchased a new yoga video. AM and PM yoga for beginners. I’ve only used it a couple of times but think I will enjoy it. And honestly, I thought I had more balance and flexibility than I do.
I’ve noticed recently that I am struggling with a wee bit of depression about this back issue. So I’m making an effort to try and stay positive about it but I find it very hard. I think the back is just a complicated thing and there aren’t any “concrete” answers. Everything is could be, or might work so I find myself feeling somewhat at the mercy of doctors and maybes. And I don’t like it. So I’m trying to take some of my owns steps – yoga, more stretching, working on my posture, reading more about the issue (2 books from library) and really trying to not get so stressed and worked up about things.
But on a positive note – I’m feeling pretty good today and I slept through the night with very little pain which hasn’t happened for a couple of weeks. So woo-hoo.

saturday...my friend...
so again i am having a pretty lazy saturday. i'm heading to the y in a couple of hours to get a little calorie burning action. i would go to the lake but it's about 97 degrees outside, i heard we broke a high temp record yesterday and likely will today. i also heard on the news that if you are fair skinned you will likely sunburn in 15 minutes. holy moly...keep me out of the sun.
tonight we are heading to the "goddess workshop" a new exhibit featuring work by an old friend dirk hooper - it's basically fetish photography. mmmmm....it should be interesting.
i am also starting to psych myself up for this coming week. wednesday i leave for the family trip and will probably be home on sunday. since i'm laptopless there will likely be no blogging during that time. which makes me think i need a laptop because this could potentially be prime blogging material. i will at least take notes so i can give a proper recap.
i am excited because my 75 year old grandma has never been to the beach so we are definitely doing that on the trip.
i've been reading some movie posts so i wanted to pass this along . e and i saw "art school confidential" last weekend. it brought up the classic art questions - what is good art? what should be considered talent? but other than that i found it pretty annoying and slow. and in the first 10 minutes there was full frontal male nude scene - which is never a pretty thing. but that's just me.

TGIF Top Ten

*Duran Duran's Arena album was the first tape I ever owned. If I remember correctly, I received Thriller for a birthday present in the 4th grade but I had it on record so I exchanged it for Arena. I had some older neighbors (Stephanie and Theresa) who were in the 6th & 7th grade and they loved Duran Duran. I have memories of roller skating and lipsynching to this album...oh the memories. It wasn't until today that I realized that Arena was a tour video with an album.

Fade Together – Franz Ferdinand
Hungry Like the Wolf – Duran Duran*
Get Me Outta Here – Jet
Extra Pale – Goo Goo Dolls
Under My Skin – Fono
Bom Bom Bom – Living Things
Flood – Jars of Clay
One of These Things First – Nick Drake
So Messed Up – Radial Angel
Last week my mix was pretty varied - not so much this week.
Happy Friday.

thursday...it's almost friday...
Today I had lunch with some old co-workers. It is funny because every time I see them they ask if I’ve lost weight and I say “no” and they say “well you look so thin.” This is funny because I have been about the same weight for the past year but they ask every time. I think it’s my great $22.99 pants from Target.
Anyway, these two women (the two Michelle’s) are both in their early fifties and I think they look great. They are active, intelligent women yet they obsessive more about food than any of us 20-30 something’s. As we sat down to lunch they started harassing me about how they don’t understand how I maintain my weight with my diet. They even pointed out the two starches on my plate. I had roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, a roll and a piece of pie. But keep in mind that half of the roast beef, potatoes, green beans and the whole piece of pie came home with me. And I only ate a quarter of the roll. But I seriously felt like they were attacking me about what I was eating.
We also discussed exercise and I mentioned that I wanted to take a water aerobics class but I was scared of looking for a bathing suit. I then was told that it would be easy for me and that I should have no problem finding a great bathing suit with my figure and all.
Seriously, I am a big ole pear with double butt cheeks. And does anyone, ANYONE enjoy looking for a bathing suit?
These are women in there early fifties that still haven’t figured out that weighing a certain amount or not eating bread will not bring you great happiness and confidence. Why is it that we lie to ourselves that if we are skinny enough or look a certain way everything will be better? I believe it is a lie.
So much fat talk lately…so sorry. I think I will go eat my pie now.

pms...not again...
so for the last few weeks i've been joking that i have post-pms...well guess what the real thing is back. i didn't even have a break. isn't it odd how some months are worse than others?
today hasn't been a very good day. my back continues to be an issue and i haven't been sleeping good. and i don't know if it's possible but i think my adjustment yesterday is causing pain in one of my feet...is that possible? i also have a big project at work that i need to start working on and the fear of starting it is killing me. this is my normal routine - i stress about not knowing what i'm doing and the thought of starting and then once i get started it's generally not too bad. but the getting started always kicks me in the rear.
my co-worker amy and i walked to the new farmer's market downtown today. not a bad walk (minus the odd pain in my foot) but the produce was picked over by the time we got there...not a tomato to be found. too bad. luckily it's every wednesday so i'm hoping to make it a routine. because let's be honest i need more veggies in my life.
i'm not one to talk a lot about tv because i try to not be a tv nerd. but i've decided i love grey's anatomy and sandra oh. i have a confession - i hated sideways, hated it and nothing you can say will change it. anyway, because of that i have developed a dislike for sandra oh. she has moved me on grey's anatomy though. i'm not sure if it's her character or acting skills but on monday's episode she was fantastic. so my point is you should check out grey's if you've never seen it. this is one of my favorite clips from the season finale.
no more tv talk.
i've heard that the link to the hummus recipe is a little funky so here it is. by the way, the it is yummy.
Avocado Lime Hummus
Points per serving 2
Servings 4
1 15-oz. can chick peas1 tsp. fresh lime juice1 medium avocado2 cloves garlicsalt & pepper
Drain chick peas.
Put chick peas, lime juice, avocado (peeled of course) and garlic into food processor.
Blend til it’s however smooth you like it. I leave some chunks for texture.
Salt & pepper to taste.
Use fresh veggies to dip (0 points) or some low point pita chips.
also, the name of the book i referenced yesterday is "Overcoming Eating" by Jane Hirschmann and Carol Munter. it's fairly old and is available in paperback so it was pretty cheap.
exercise. i walked to the farmer's market and back approximately 2 miles.

i was domestic, i was domestic...
tonight i made dinner (turkey hamburgers on the good old george forman) and then i made a recipe i've been meaning to try forever. aim is true posted a recipe a few weeks ago and i finally made it. yea for me. anyway, it's nothing fancy. which is why it's all the funnier that i'm so excited about it.
it's hummus for pete's sake. anyway, i'm excited to try it when it's chilled and i'm not stuffed with the turkey burgers. work girls...guess what we're snacking on tomorrow.
instead of stealing her photo and recipe i'm going to send you over there - scroll down to the second post. she frequently posts simple food items so you should check in every now and then.
today, i also dove into my compulsive eating book. and yes, E did buy it for my birthday. and yes, i did really ask for it. i had been thinking a lot about how food is good or bad to me. and how i'm either good or bad. there isn't really a balance. which got me thinking...is there a balance? is it possible to not spend the rest of my life worried and obsessed about my bad relationship with food. because i've lost weight and i think i've dealt with some of my issues but seriously i still have some struggles. anyway, i read a post about this book and how it shed some light on those thoughts. so today i started it. and guess what...i am a big fat compulsive eater. i eat to make myself feel better and then i feel worse. everything is good or bad. and i'm scared to think about changing my eating habits/patterns because i am afraid of spinning out of control.
i'm pretty sure the book is based on my sad food life.
the book even mentions the term "thin fat people" which refers to skinny compulsive eaters. that's me. anyway, it seems like it might be interesting and thought provoking.
i orginally started this blog to track my marathon training. and as a way to keep myself accountable to myself and A (and anyone else who wanted to harass me). i've decided to try and post my exercise here again. maybe that way i will exercise. so if you notice i don't mention exercise for a few days...just chime in and ask or drop a little hint. that would be great.
today i went to the y at lunch. 20 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes walking. no super-athlete stuff here but it's something, right? i'm seriously trying to psych myself up for water aerobics but that involves a bathing suit. and well that's another issue.
E is bugging me about blogging again. must go waste time on tv.

bloggers everywhere...
I have three new blogs to add to my "blogs to visit daily" roster...everyone is jumping on board the blog boat and I'm so excited.
http://word-of-wis.blogspot.com/ - my lovely LA friend Melissa
http://robbietherobot.wordpress.com - Robbie in KC
http://catie-jo.blogspot.com - Catie in KC
Robbie and Catie are what I called second-friends a couple of weeks ago. You know friends of friends. But I think we just might have crossed into first-friends list. That friends of friends to friends transition is a little weird. But anyway, they're blogging and now I can keep up with more of my peeps. I just typed the word peeps...
I feel the need to blog more this week but for some reason I'm feeling sort of anti-social and have been avoiding the blog. Which is odd because really blogging is about as far from being social as you can be - it's just me on a keyboard. But yet I'm always aware that someone is going to read it so I wonder does that make it a social activity. Hmmm.
I heard this story on NPR last night and I thought it was interesting.

saturday...
what a good day.
just hanging out this morning. it's past noon, i'm still in my pjs and no major plans for the day. ahhhh... maybe a walk, some lunch and a movie tonight with my birthday gift certificate.
and thank goodness i have this day. because i need lots of mental rest before taking part in the mother's day celebration tomorrow.
Over the years, I have had people tell me that I look like Diane Keaton. I don't really see it and E says it's our big cheeks. Who knows. But honestly, I'm fascinated by her and her dress. I'm not really one to wear hats, gloves, ties or turtlenecks but I admire her for looking the way she wants. She has her own personal style, I find it refreshing. Anway, I saw this and I did a little "you go girl" for her.
Diane Keaton has a new role. The Oscar-winning actress, who is 60, will star as a spokesperson for L'Oreal Paris and its brands.
She will appear in print and TV ads beginning in late summer in the U.S.

that time again...
Friday's Random 10
On the Road Again – Willie Nelson
What You Meant – Franz Ferdinand
Hold Me – Fleetwood Mac
Slipknot – Poor Old Lu
Hang Up – Madonna
Laughing Out Loud – The Wallflowers
Debora – T Rex
Travelin’ Thru – Dolly Parton
Cautioners – Jimmy Eat World
Hey Tonight – Credence Clearwater Revival
Hmmm...this is a wide variety of music.
I was listening to NPR this morning and they were doing a special segment on mothers and cooking. Anway, one the segments spoke of a mother's funeral that involved passing out shots of tequila and releasing doves at the cemetary in celebration of her life. I thought that was very interesting and how I should consider having tequila at my funeral. Granted I don't like tequila and would probably prefer some rum. And I think I want to be cremated but it is an interesting thought. Maybe you could drink white russians at my ash spreading.
This is sort of morbid isn't it? Sorry.

the felon, the granny and the thirtysomething...
take a roadtrip...
i'm taking a roadtrip with my grandmother and my biological father. yes, i have gone insane. but i do have a small bit of logic to back-up my decision. so my grandma calls me over the weekend. this is my grandma who pretty much was my mother until i was 5 and who has been the most consistent figure in my life. so when she asks me if i will do something with her...i do it. my father has two boys who live in corpus christi and they are considerably younger than me. 13 years and 10 years to be exact. the oldest is graduating from high school and my grandma wants to take a road trip to the graduation/festivities. note here (in case you are unfamiliar with my crazy father) my father has never been consistent in my life and when he was he was likely high. he also went to prison recently and hasn't acknowledged my birthday since i was 15.
eek.
a road trip with my lovely 70 somthing grandma, the recent prisoner and i to see my half-brothers who i have had very limited contact with...sigh. and we will travel about 20 hours together in a car...sigh. naive as i might be i'm thinking i could potentialy resolve some of my father issues on this trip. that's what would happen if this were a movie. keep in mind i will spend more time with stanley on this trip than i have spent with him in probably 20 years. i'm also hoping that maybe i can make up for not being a very good sister to these boys. maybe this is a chance to renew some sort of relationship. yeah, i probably am being naive.
and lastly, i'm seriously afraid to let the two of them drive across texas together, alone. they have been known to complain about OKC traffic. but seriously, the stress and overanalyzing of this trip and the reprecusions have already started. i imagine a good couple of weeks of emotional trauma when i return. hide the donuts.
Now to other stuff.
Church. Eddie and I have been going off and on for a couple of months now. Tuesday we had dinner with the pastor's family, associate pastor and two other couples. They seem very nice and not too cynical or negative. it was a nice time. one negative though. they all have babies, the moms are stay at home moms and they all live in the outer downtown area and have wooden floors. will i have anything in common with these people?
Tonight I went to a small group with them. It was good. Yes, it is good for me to talk about God some. Last week I had a conversation with the Dosters and friends and I've been thinking a lot about the mystery of God. It came up again tonight. What if I could just embrace the mystery of it all? I'm pretty sure that would be a beautiful thing because honestly it's never going to make sense to me. I will never be able to accept things like I did in the past.
Diet & Exercise. E bought me a book about compulsive eathing for my birthday. And yes I did ask for it. I keep thinking about how I'm always good or bad. And there seems to be this trend among "eaters" that we are always good or bad. I want to be balanced and honestly I don't know if it's possible. I like to think that I won't always worry about food but even if I was 20lbs lighter I would still feel bad about the cheeseburger I had for dinner. And I think do I always have to feel bad or can I just eat it, move on and the next meal what? Should I say eat something light, adjust, eat what I want? See this is where the confusion abounds...because given the opportunity I will eat the tots everytime.
I'm going to leave it at that. Sorry for all the rambling, bad grammar and change in case midway through.

friday...my friend
Well today, I am frustrated. Frustrated by so many things really but I’m low on personal blogging energy so I’m opting for some random tidbits.
Hello Big Brother!
WASHINGTON - Congressional Republicans and Democrats demanded answers from the Bush administration Thursday about a government spy agency secretly collecting records of ordinary Americans' phone calls to build a database of every call made within the country. More
Very interesting.
HONOLULU - Twelve species of rare flies known for their elaborate courtship displays and found only in the Hawaiian Islands are now protected under the Endangered Species Act. More
Britney Spears is proof to me that you can’t hide the white trash in anyone – despite having stylists, personal trainers, makeup artists and really good abs. Yes, I know I have hidden and it will come out at some point.
American Idol, whoa. I have cut-back on my Idol time lately but still…what are Americans thinking? But then again we do have W in charge. Fool me once, fool me twice…whatever George.
Coming soon: President Bush III?
The second -- and current -- President Bush suggested yesterday that his younger brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, would make a "great president." More
That turned political quick. Not sure where that came from.
Later tater...mmm...tater tots...good.
UPDATE: Just a note about tidbit #1. I heard three people expressing extreme disappointment in the American Idol decision last night but not one person expressing concern about the U.S. government tracking our personal phone calls. This is very interesting to me...

it's 5am...
and i can't sleep. my back is hurting so bad that i am wide awake at 5am and i'm pissed. this is about the 4th day in a row that this has happened.
i'm just so absolutely frustrated by this experience. i can't fix the problem and it just makes me so upset. the chiro says to not be disheartened that the problem didn't just begin overnight and it will take some time to alleviate. so in the meantime, i just pray for a full night of sleep and the ability to get through the day with not major episodes. and then on top of all the pain i'm spending $30 on chiro visits. errrh.
and just as a cleansing here is a list of other reasons i'm annoyed right this minute
i'm mad that-

and just as a cleansing here is a list of other reasons i'm annoyed right this minute
i'm mad that-
- i have not learned to deal with stress, worry and doubt
- my family and my personal history is so jacked up
- i refuse to take responsibility for my eating - i continue to ignore what i know
- i don't exercise despite the fact that my body tells me to
- i'm only 31 and this has become an issue - and i likely ignored some pain for years - hence causing the problem to be worse
- it's possible that i could do all of these things right and i still might die of some strange form of cancer caused by eating too many apples
- my stomach is growling and i'm trying to avoid early morning snacking
- today i'm supposed to stop the spinning out of control and right now I DON'T WANT TO
- i feel complete helpless and can't fix any of my problems - i feel like i'm controlled by too many factors - i have no discipline, self-control and avoid taking responsibilty for my physical and emotional health
now that i have wallowed...i'm going to try to go back to bed. sorry for the downer post.

monday, monday, monday...
oddly enough it seems like it's been forever since my last blog but really it was only friday and I think in a 3 day period last week i blogged about eight times. isn't blog a really weird word when you say it over and over again...blog, blog, blog, blog
i had a very lovely weekend with our friends the dosters and our second-friends (it's like second-cousins but they are second-friends because we met them through the dosters). there was a graduation. there was lots of food and drink - hideaway (mushrooms and pizza), starbucks (a big fat coffee), shogun (well, way too much food), galileos (that super fab chocolate cake and dip sampler and a kamakazi?), makers (another kamakazi with cherry flavor and cherries), and lastly teds (mmmm..good..totillas) and some sunday late night custard. yes, all i do with my friends is eat...
so today i went to an indesign class...it's seriously boring and i have 2 days left. i'm not really sure which is best...work or class...i'm leaning toward work right now.
now that my weekend binge is over i really need to start watching the ole points again. and guess what it sucks. spinning out of control is a very hard thing for me to stop. once i stop, i'm fine but putting the breaks on is difficult. so if i yell at you in the next week or so it's probably because i'm avoiding fried and sweet things. i'm also trying to convince myself that exercise is good for me. the funny thing is my body wants to exercise - i feel it but my mind just wants to sit on the couch. surely my body can control my weak little mind...surely.
and lastly, because i really do have other things to do. lately at work my co-workers have said to me multiple times "hey christie you should blog about that." i'm like their sounding board but yet blogs are free and i don't know why they don't blog about these things they are interested in. also, i've gotten the "i wish more people posted on your blog - that way we could have answers to your ponderdings." YET (amy) chooses not to comment on my blog to share her thoughts. she simply walks to my cube and tells me. so i've been thinking how do you really get traffic to your blog and really the only way to market a blog is through crusing the world wide web and posting on other's blogs. and i've come to a conclusion about this - posting on other's blogs makes me very nervous. unless i know you, i run the risk of rejection. there is a blog i found in okc - a twenty something - who shares my birthday and participated in the marathon. i have posted numerous times on her blog and shared the interesting similarities and i've gotten nothing. it's like trying to make friends and them completely shuting you down. so yeah, i get nervous about posting so i'm not sure i can properly market my blog. i would appreciate any thoughts (amy).
that was a serious typing frenzy so if it makes no sense and reads like an eight-year old wrote it...sorry. or better yet go find another blog friend. wait...don't...i need you in my count of 6 faithful readers.
word is that eddie posted a new blog today...i haven't read it yet so if it's offensive don't blame me.

Friday's Random 10...
So I’ve noticed in blogging world that people will list their Friday Random 10.
They shuffle their music player of choice and list the first 10 songs that play. So I’m slightly embarrassed by my list today – so much pop – but I’m going to trust that you will still love me despite my love for pop princess Kelly.
1. Spinning – Radial Angel
2. Children of the Revolution – T Rex (a really cool 70’s band from the UK)
3. A Lifetime – Better than Ezra
4. You Rock my World – Michael Jackson
5. It’s my Fault – Dryve
6. Sister, Mother – Sixpence None the Richer
7. Crazy – Alanis Morissette
8. You Found Me – Kelly Clarkson
9. Not Enough – Our Lady Peace
10. Lonely People – Augustana
Seriously, I am doing way too much blogging this week.

oh how i love thursdays and krispy kreme...
This week is employee appreciation week and thus far we have gotten some pretty shoddy food items but this morning we scored some good donuts. Which is handy because I think I have post-PMS PMS…is that possible? I am moody and have eaten every greasy, fatty thing I can get my hands on. Maybe it’s post half-marathon “what do I do with my time” syndrome. I know…I will eat.
I heard about this $95.2 million painting this morning and it made me wonder…how do you think Pablo would feel about that? Would he think it was money well spent or completely ridiculous? I know all artists want to make a decent living but would most artists (creating for the sake of creating) feel comfortable with their works being valued so highly monetarily. As I was pondering this I did realize one type of “artist” that would take the money and run…starchitects…those artists make some serious cash.
Then I started thinking about the positive impact $95.2 million could have on the world…and then I stopped myself. Why think about hunger, illness, education when we can look at a pretty painting.
And lastly the article mentions Dennis Kozlowski, the former CEO of Tyco who owned a Monet and Renoir – I would like to point out that E worked for Tyco for about five years and never made enough to buy a Monet on his $9/hour salary but he did run a very good mailroom.
NEW YORK - A portrait by Pablo Picasso of the woman who influenced him in the late 1930s and early 1940s sold for $95.2 million, the second-highest amount ever paid for a painting at auction, the auction house Sotheby's said.
"Dora Maar au chat," which depicts Picasso's mistress, went to an anonymous buyer in the room who was competing with telephone bidders during Wednesday's auction.
Its selling price ranked second only to another Picasso piece, "Garcon a la pipe," which sold at Sotheby's for more than $104 million in May 2004, the auction house said.
Also sold were paintings by Monet and Renoir that once hung in a lavish Fifth Avenue apartment used by former Tyco CEO L. Dennis Kozlowski.
The two paintings, Monet's "Pres Monte Carlo" and Renoir's "Fleurs et Fruits," were among items from the apartment listed in documents filed in Manhattan's state Supreme Court, where Kozlowski was convicted last year of grand larceny and other charges.
"Pres Monte Carlo," an Impressionist landscape of sea, sky and lush greenery, went to an anonymous buyer for about $5.1 million, Sotheby's said.
"Fleurs et Fruits," a still life of peaches and other fruits arranged around a blue vase holding bright orange flowers, fetched $2.8 million. A Sotheby's spokeswoman said no buyer information for the piece was available.
Prosecutors said it was unclear to them whether the canvases were owned by Tyco International Ltd. or Kozlowski. Any money that is due Kozlowski would almost certainly be used to pay fines, restitution and possible civil judgments, they said.

so it's 10:30pm...
and i'm working on a button order...errr...the downside of a small, very little money making business.
i know you have all been anticipating my birthday week in review.
so my festivities started on thursday. actually they weren't so festive because E left town that morning but he did leave me presents. which included a t-shirt from threadless.com, some cool speakers for my ipod listening at work and this handy little cord wrapper thing for my ipod. plus some flowers. oh and a $25 itunes gift card.
friday was pretty low-key. no festivities other than i had a three day weekend ahead of me. actually i have no recollection of friday night...i think i cleaned.
saturday my friend alida from fort worth came to visit me (at E's prompting). we had intentions to go to the art's festival for lunch, cheever's for dinner and some fun stuff in between. instead we had a lot of rain, a stop at sonic, old navy, and the marathon expo. finally we made it to the art's festival around 4:00pm and i ate an empanada...mmmm good. E asked me to document the weekend with photos since he was going to be gone so here are some pics from our rainy outing.

stop at old navy. my new friend chunky monkey.

beef empanada and fried sweet potatoes. double mmmm.

a lovely view of downtown after the rain. i think it was much prettier in person...
saturday evening consisted of me trying to rest and not panic about the upcoming marathon. i went to bed at 11:00, i went to sleep at 1:00.
and three hours later i awoke at 4:00am (am, am, am, am...before sun the welcomed me to the day). the marathon started at 6:30am and that was after a good 45 minutes of wandering around downtown with groggy marathoners. i'm glad the race started when it did because i was getting really cranky and annoyed at my fellow runners. three hours later...all done. the more i think about our run, the prouder i am of us. we did really great and i had a fun time. i have no pictures of the race. we had no personal fans and had no desire to travel with a camera. too bad.
after consuming a banana, two oreos, half a bagel and a half a cheeseburger i went home and went to sleep. it wasn't good sleep because i think my body was super mad at me. later that afternoon i went to my parent's house. we had picnic food and hung out a bit. by the way, i hate picnic food but my mother refuses to believe it so she serves it on my birthday. oddly enough i tell her i hate it and she just giggles. after a couple of hours of their house i had to bail. i was exhausted. here are some pics of my nephew isn't he adorable (snot and all).

my own personal cake....i should have taken a picture of the potato salad...yuk.
i think that's all i've got for now. tomorrow maybe you will hear about my pf changs induced trance and pedis and pizza.
