today there was a new employee lunch for me and another new lady. i was discussing this outing with a friend and how awkward it was - the question was raised, are all new employee lunches just weird and awkward. and i think they are...you go out with a group of people who know each other (and sometimes don't like each other) and you know no one. and well sometimes no one really talks to you...which is odd to me because it's a lunch in your honor. you would think people would talk to you, learn about you, ultimately seem interested in you...but this is not the case.
my last job, you know the state one...it was by the far the weirdest new employee luncheon i've ever had...there were 5 people who barely talked and showed absolutely no interest in any meaningful "get to know each other" conversation. i remember thinking this lunch is going nowhere and i must lead the conversation so i made them talk about themselves. later i realized this group was also by far the most dysfunctional group of co-workers i ever had so in the end it all made sense.
but really the lunch today was nice and i think they were trying to be welcoming. and the owner did buy and purchased both an appetizer and dessert. as opposed to my cheap ass state boss who made my co-workers split up the meal. that part still makes me laugh.
job is good. i still haven't been exercising. i'm thinking about it and i'm feeling guilty. my week is pretty busy, thanks to some planning on my part. tomorrow i think i'm going to wear shorts.
in honor of christopher walken in hairspray, which i caught tonight, i spread some crazy walken around. this makes me smile every time.
